Amelia Mallona

Amelia joined TND in November 2020 as a Hotline Housing Associate. Previously, she worked as a volunteer supporting residents to apply for unemployment during the COVID-19 pandemic and to fill out the census. Amelia is a retired professor from Springfield and Merrimack Colleges – with an emphasis on teaching human development, social movements, and participatory action research. In Nicaragua, her country of origin, she worked in community development in rural areas affected by civil war. She is passionate about helping learners practice critical thinking and reach their full potential. She facilitates learning processes through a reflection-action process leading to social change. She recently finished an evaluation of a Participatory Action Research on “The Multidimensional Aspect of Poverty in the United States.” Amelia holds a Ph.D in Human Development and Educational Psychology from Boston College.
