Participate in a Chelsea mural survey!
TND recently participated in the Affordable Housing Design Leadership Initiative, where we explored the connections between art, health, and resilience in housing. The program pushed us to better engage community members as we develop new affordable homes and ensure that the design processes are community-informed. To support this effort, TND hired an Artist/Facilitator to focus on connecting the community and residents to artists and art commissions for new construction, lead community workshops, help identify and be a liasion with the artists.
The first project is a ‘Welcome to Chelsea’ mural at 1005 Broadway. 1005 Broadway is a community-centered building featuring affordable rental homes and public open spaces to connect Chelsea with the waterfront along Mill Creek, serving residents and neighbors alike.
It is along the border between Chelsea and Revere, and is the first building drivers see as they enter the city. The “Welcome to Chelsea” mural will be installed along the creek-facing side of the building.
This project is a significant step forward in TND’s focus on sustainability and resilience. It will be TND’s first project designed to Passive House standards, and will include a large amount of rooftop solar panels, helping to power more than half of the building’s electricity usage.
