As the title suggests, you'll be at the heart of delivering both warm and helpful assistance, all while ensuring safety within the MBTA stations. Your expertise and friendly demeanor will truly shine as you contribute to a welcoming environment for everyone. MBTA Transit Associates are responsible for the safety of riders! Due to the serious nature of the job, we require a full 13 panel drug screen (this includes marijuana) as a part of our hiring process.

Our Transit Associates are on a mission to CONNECT with riders throughout their entire shift. Devoted and Engaged Associates proactively seek out opportunities to CONNECT by providing excellent customer service or hospitality with every rider they encounter!

Our stations offer a range of experiences, from enclosed settings to open-air areas with direct outdoor access. Be ready to adapt to changing weather conditions – from the warmth of summer to the chill of winter. As you engage with riders, you'll find that our stations cater to a diverse community, including the unsheltered population, providing our Customer Service Transit Associates with opportunities to provide customer service or hospitality to our unhoused population in unique situations. This job requires the physical capacity to walk or stand continuously during the entirety of your shift.

Essential Job Functions:

Be Visible and Engaging:

As Transit Associates, you will be visible at stations in order to increase hospitality and safety for all riders, particularly at entrances and exits, for optimal rider enjoyment. With a friendly greeting as a constant, you will actively step forward to assist those in need of guidance, whether it's navigating the MBTA system or providing directions and fare guidance. Assisting with safety for individuals with disabilities, such as deploying bridge plates, will also be part of your caring and customer-focused role.

Take Ownership:

Transit Associates will most often be the only MBTA representative in their assigned stations and fully responsible for station operations throughout their shift. From a uniformed presence by ensuring safety to enhancing the commuting experience, we are the driving force behind a smooth journey for all.

Activity Reporting:

Transit Associates receive a station iPad, which is their hub for all activities. From reporting maintenance issues to tidying up any big items of trash or litter to identifying and addressing unusual behaviors, everything flows through this device. In emergencies, they follow protocols as first-line responders, alerting transit police when needed – a crucial role in maintaining safety and order for everyone.
